EMDR Brighton and Hove

Brighton Trauma Counselling

An amazingly effective therapy for desensitising and reprocessing difficult and damaging memories.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, it was developed by Francine Shapiro about 20 years ago. It is a unique and powerful therapy that helps  recovery  from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives. It stops difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly.

EMDR is best known for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and it can also help with a range of mental health conditions in people of all ages - Anger, Anxiety, Bereavement, Confidence building, Childhood and Adult traumatic events including sexual and physical abuse,Depression, one off traumas, Pain and of course PTSD amongst others.

This Psychotherapeutic intervention isn’t for everyone and there will be a careful assessment and treatment plan prior to launching into any desensitisation process together.

The therapy sessions are often longer than the standard 50 minutes with a preference to 90 minutes with the amount of sessions varying from a few to 10 plus dependant on the amount of unprocessed memories that are needed or requested to be desensitised and reprocessed.

If you are uncertain if this therapy is for you please contact me in the first instance and we can have a no pressure discussion or book in for an initial assessment and we can discuss your options.
